1950 Loveland Pass Sign, Colorado Balloon Rallies, Travel Deals
In this week's newsletter: A 1950s photograph of the Loveland Pass sign, upcoming balloon rallies in the Colorado mountains, DIA shuttle deals.
A 1950 photograph of the Loveland Pass Continental Divide sign was catalogued into the archives this week.
This Continental Divide sign has been replaced roughly 7 times over the last 100 years, and the signs have also been repainted on several occasions.
The vehicle shown here is likely either a 1949 Nash 600 or a 1950 Nash Ambassador.

The original elevation measurement was 11,992’. This was changed to 11,988’ during the 1950s when a new sign was added. That number remained in place through the next few variations of the sign, but by the early 1980s this was adjusted to 11,990’. This is the same elevation that is listed on the Loveland Pass sign today.
