4th of July Mountain Fireworks, a 1950s Arapahoe Basin Lift Ticket, and More!
In this newsletter: updates from the Coloradotopia Archives Collection, upcoming 4th of July fireworks in the mountains, and Colorado travel deals.
Before RFID cards and wicket tickets, the daily passes for many ski areas were stapled together in one way or another. This Arapahoe Basin lift ticket comes from the early days of the resort. A-Basin opened in 1946, and this ticket was likely used sometime during the 1950s. More photos & info.
The Scene at the Top of Berthoud Pass
The Harold Sanborn postcards below were also cataloged into the archives this week. The first shows the Berthoud Pass Inn during the winter of 1938-1939 after it had just been rebuilt.
The second postcard image shows the same structure after it was expanded in 1939. This image was likely captured during the winter of 1939-1940 or the next season.

4th of July Mountain Fireworks
As you might expect, all of the major towns and resorts will have their own celebration this year. Due to fire restrictions, there are a few important updates to note.
Vail, Beaver Creek, and Telluride and will all have fireworks. Pagosa Springs and Silverton will also have fireworks, and there are also lots of fireworks displays planned across the Front Range and in Denver.
Summit County will not have any fireworks. The same is true for Winter Park. Aspen and Steamboat will have drone shows instead. While there are no fireworks at Copper Mountain, the resort does have a Friday rail jam on Colorado’s last remaining open patch of snow, followed by music at the Red, White, Brews & Tunes show.
