Ski Resort Openings and a 1905 Mt. Holy Cross–Pikes Peak Civil War P.O.W. Pin
A more accurate name might be a 1905 National Association of Union Ex-Prisoners of War pin and ribbon.
Added to the archives this week: a 1905 pin and ribbon awarded to a Union soldier who was taken prisoner during the Civil War. The pin features a Mt. Holy Cross image (now called Mount of the Holy Cross), the Pikes Peak Cog Railway, and 13 stars on each side, representing the original 13 states.
The ribbon has clearly seen better days.
This is a non-government-issued pin, commissioned by the National Association of Union Ex-Prisoners of War. It was made for the 1905 Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Encampment in Denver, which brought together veterans’ groups from around the country.

See the pin in the collection, and read about the G.A.R. Encampment here.
